BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

A book titled The Diocese of Biloxi is a beautiful book filled with photographs and stories about the 55 parishes within the Diocese.

Author Tammy Sanders Muller returned from an overseas trip where she visited some of the world's great cathedrals and realized something.

"We travel other places and see the beauty there, but we forget to recognize the beauty in our own backyard" Muller said.

Tammy spent the next year and a half traveling the 17 counties in South Mississippi that make up the Diocese of Biloxi. She took photographs and did research that revealed a legacy of faith.

"The history of the generations before us struggled to lay the foundation of our churches. After fires and hurricanes, they kept going. There are so many stories to be told," Muller said.

The Diocese granted Muller complete access to the churches. Tammy began this mission with some concerns.

"I worried about some of the priests saying, 'I don't want you to take pictures in my church.' Every single one of them welcomed me in with open arms. They were excited to show off what they have in their parishes," Muller said.

Historical and beautiful Catholic churches, in the book The Dioceses of Biloxi: Our Parishes, Our Missions, Our Faith. You can to go to http://tammymullerphotography.com/ and find out where the book is available.

As Ja-Naya Thompson's short life was celebrated, there were a lot of tears and hugs as hundreds of people paid their respects during the visitation and the funeral service.
