Safe Kids Columbus: Keep your kids safe this Halloween season

Posted: Updated:

On average, twice as many kids are killed while walking on Halloween compared to other days of the year.

Christy Hubbard with Safe Kids Columbus tells us about pedestrian safety on Halloween.

Parents should walk with their children while out trick-or-treating.

As for costumes, parents should make sure their child's costume does not obstruct their vision. Masks can make it hard for kids to see, so wearing a hat or non-toxic face paint is a good alternative. Bright costumes should also be worn, or costumes with reflective surfaces that can be seen in the dark or from a distance.

Children's costumes should not be too big, because the child can trip on it.

Drivers should also be especially careful that day. Slow down and look for children near intersections and curbs.
