Coach Chris Peterson has guided Gautier to 3 wins and 2 losses in the Region 4-5A standings with 2 regular season games remaining
before the Class 5A state playoffs hit the football turf on November 15th. After Friday's Long Beach game, the Gators tackle Region 4-5A leader Pascagoula a week from Friday.
Peterson said,"It's been kind of an up-and-down season and there were a couple of more games we thought we had a chance to win and were disappointed that we didn't win. However, we're still in pretty good shape right now and can finish our goal which was to get into post-season."@
Peterson has used two quarterbacks this season, LeCharles Pringle, a gifted runner who has averaged 7.2 yards per rush and five touchdowns.
Jamyrian Quinn is the Gators passing quarterback. He has relied on a host of receivers, Gerald "Cornbread" McGee, D-J Ruffin and Eric Maye.
"Maye has been a catalyst for us all year,"stated Peterson. He added," Maye has played running back, slot receiver and wing back in our veer offense. He's done an outstanding job."
Wide receiver Isaiah Swoops can also pick up big yards running the football, along with LaJuan Johnson and JaMarco Carson who rips off almost 6 yards per carry.
Peterson says senior center Zack Thweatt is the Gators vocal leader, a key member in Gautier's hunt to claim a playoff slot.
