Savannah Mall set to expand

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah Mall will soon have some new entertainment options for families.

WTOC can confirm Safari Playhouse and Mini Golf will open on November 15, according to the store's owner Mark Carpenter. The playhouse will be a wilderness medium soft play area, an 18-hole miniature golf course, full arcade and snack bar.

Pole Position Raceway has also signed a contract to lease 43,000 square feet of space for an indoor electric go-kart facility. This will open in mid-2014 on the second level of the mall.

Lastly, a Toby Keith: I Love this Bar & Grill restaurant is also set to open at the mall. Savannah Mall General Manager Phil McConnell told WTOC negotiations are still underway between the City of Savannah and the architects working on the project, so no word yet on an opening date.

Jamella Washington has two young children and usually shops at Ogelthorpe Mall. She told WTOC she's thrilled about the new additions.

"It makes it more family friendly when you come out instead of just something for the adults. You have something for the kids to do. This mall didn't have many things to do so maybe it will bring a bigger crowd," she said.

On the other hand, not everyone is excited about the new additions.

"For me the go-kart stuff and all that is nothing I would be interested in, but stores for my age would be a lot nicer," said Dona Allmond.

Kay Milner agreed. She said she would like to see different stores and more variety.
