WLOX Editorial: Stopping the release of Mark Mouchett was the right thing to do

Posted: Updated:

Robert Modica should be 25 years old. Maybe married and raising a family. But Robert is not alive today, not married and not raising a family. That's because he was shot to death. The victim of road rage when he was only 16 years old.

Mark Mouchett was convicted in the shooting death and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Mark Mouchett is alive and after serving 7 years in prison was about to be freed. But now some right minded people have intervened and stopped the release of Mouchett delaying his release until at least next fall or beyond.

Mississippi manslaughter laws have changed since this case went to trial giving judges more options for longer sentences. No matter what happens we cannot bring Robert Modica back. But stopping the release of Mark Mouchett - it's the right thing to do.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com.
