Kemper Co. plant opening pushed back; cost estimate goes up

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Mississippi Power's Kemper County plant won't go online for another year, and its construction costs keep going up. That news came late Tuesday afternoon from company officials.

A Mississippi Power spokesperson said the latest price tag has the plant costing about $4.02 billion. That's up from the last estimate in July of $3.87 billion. Company officials say this cost difference will not affect Mississippi Power customers.

Installation delays and wet weather are the main reasons for the new projected opening date.
