Crews rescue man from car in Carolina Forest pond

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A car has apparently driven into a retention pond in front of a Carolina Forest shopping center.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol website lists a non-injury accident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday on Renee Drive in Horry County.

WMBF News Reporter Monique Blair was on the scene as emergency crews loaded a man into a stretcher, and then transported him in an ambulance. Horry County Fire and Rescue, SCHP crews, and a dive team were on the scene.

Assistant Fire Chief Justin Gibbins says there was the man was on top of his car which was submerged in the pond when crews arrived. It appears he was the only person in the car.

The HCFR dive team is assisting a tow company in recovering the vehicle. Stay tuned to WMBF News as more information becomes available.

    The Mississippi Highway Patrol is looking for a driver who ran away from the scene of a deadly crash in George County. Three children were killed in the crash. Troopers said a green 2003 Kia Optima was heading east on Highway 198, east of Depot Road, shortly before 4 p.m. on Saturday.
