Robbery suspect beats store clerk with metal pipe in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

The Fayetteville police arrested a 33-year-old after he allegedly beat a store clerk with a metal pipe and stole cash from the Greenway B.P. station on Glynn Street.

William Robert Paul confronted the clerk outside the store around 1:20 a.m. on Monday, according to police reports.

The clerk told police that he attempted to defend himself, but Paul struck him with a metal pipe in the head and face.

Paul emptied out two cash drawers before fleeing the scene, according to reports. The clerk was taken to Atlanta Medical Center.

Paul was arrested by officers after he robbed a Waffle House restaurant  three hours later, according to Fulton County police.

He is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and battery.
