A 22 year old man, originally from Senatobia, is learning to walk again, on new artificial legs, made for him, at the Methodist Rehabilitation Center in Jackson. He lost his legs, five years ago in a bush hog accident.
Thirty-nine surgeries after almost bleeding to death from having his legs run over by a bush hog, Drew Bouchillon isn't dwelling on the accident that put him in a wheelchair.
"I was praying, I mean you know you think you are gonna die," said Bouchillon. "They ran out there, they saw the tractor running around, they went out there and found me and called the wings to come pick me up."
"Drew now lives in Houston, Texas, but when it came time to get some high tech artificial limbs, he came back to Methodist Rehabilitation Center in Jackson, where he had been treated earlier.
"You know these are just life changing for me," said Drew. "I am very grateful for them."
He is now learning to walk on the new legs that cost more than $60,000 and were made especially for him by Taylor Hankins of Brandon, a certified prosthetist, who works for Methodist Rehabilitation.
"Drew has plenty of potential and really wants to use that potential," said Hankins. "A lot have potential that is under utilized, but he is wanting to take advantage of everything that he has been given."
Drew's goal is to learn to walk unassisted on his new legs.
He has won six gold medals in handicapped competition and he wants to come back and work at Methodist Rehabilitation Center after getting his degree.
