Stone Tomcats preparing for biggest football game in years

Most of the Tomcats coaching staff are graduates of Stone High, including head coach Adam Stone.

After 8 games, the Tomcats have posted 7 games under the win column.

This past Friday Stone defeated Gautier 21 to 18.

Stone said,"I played against them when I was quarterback here and they were always really good and for us to finally beat them was a good feeling."

The Tomcats face the biggest game in years, at Pasagoula Friday night as both teams are unbeaten in the Region 4-5A ranks.

"You look at them on film, they are very athletic," Stone stated. "We're going to have to play a great game against them Friday night in order to beat them."@

If Stone can leap under the win column on Friday, 5-9, 180 pound senior running back Justin Smith will have to excel.

He leads the Tomcats with 987 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns. Smith is netting 8.3 yards a carry and has 11 receptions, netting

just over 19 yards per catch with 2 touchdowns.

Smith said,"First of all I want to thank God and my offensive line. Without my O-line I wouldn't be able to do anything."

Quarterback Clayton Johnson has passed for 694 yards, 7 touchdowns and one interception.

He can tuck the ball in and take off as well rushing for 222 yards and two TDs.

Kahlil Washington, a 225 pound senior offensive lineman says coach Stone and his assistants got the team ready, thanks to a solid work ethic, in the preseason.

"Working hard, work out with the weights hard, running hard and coach was telling us if we do what we're suppose to do and work hard, we can do anything we want to."

The Stone-Pascagoula clash will be one of the featured games on the Friday Night Football Showdown on WLOX-ABC beginning at 10:35.
