PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Pascagoula head coach Lewis Sims has his Panthers running at full-throttle. A few weeks ago D'Iberville shocked Pascagoula, but since losing to the 6A Warriors, the 5A Panthers have jumped past West Harrison, East Central, Picayune and Long Beach.
Running back Darryl Tart has sweeten up the Pascagoula ground game. The junior has played in three games and has rushed over 300 yards with 3 touchdowns.
Quarterback Andrew Dunn has passed for over a thousand yards and 11 touchdowns.
6-3, 175 pound junior wide receiver Jalen Smith leads the Panthers with 7 receiving touchdowns netting over 24 yards per catch.
6-4, 185 pound senior wide receiver Matthew Eaton has become Dunn's primary receiver taking advantage of his height and leaping ability.
The senior has received an offer to attend the Naval Academy, with an opportunity to play football. The Midshipmen don't extend football scholarships. Eaton made a 21 on his ACT and carries a 3.4 grade point average. He says academics comes first.
"Growing up my mother had always been pressing me about school first, grades were always number one." Eaton added,"She and my older brother told me that is you took care of the school books everything else will follow."
The Panthers have only 3 regular season games remaining... Stone, George County and Gautier before Pascagoula goes after back-to-back 5A South State championship titles.
The Stone @ Pascagoula game will be one of the features games on the Friday Night Football Showdown Friday night at 10:35 on WLOX-ABC.
