Cortrell Rose gets life sentence in Lenora Edhegard's death

BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Cortrell Rose has pled guilty to kidnapping and murdering Lenora Edhegard. Rose was sentenced Monday and received a life sentence without parole on a capital murder charge.

He also was sentenced to 55 years for kidnapping, motor vehicle theft, failure to register as a sex offender and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Edhegard's sister reported her missing September 24, 2012. When Rankin County Sheriff's Deputies entered her residence, they found evidence of foul play, and her vehicle was missing.

In addition, they found that her ATM and credit cards had been used. They identified Rose from surveillance video.

Rose was arrested near the Jackson Walmart, on Highway 18, after fleeing police on foot. Following his arrest, he led officers to Edgehard's body that had dumped near Tougaloo College.

"Rose was both a habitual offender and a convicted sex offender who had been previously convicted on at least four prior occasions," said Madison/Rankin District Attorney Michael Guest. "It is a tragedy that someone with the record of Rose was allowed to fall through the cracks of the system."
