GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A Gulfport woman has been arrested charged with stealing money from an elementary school PTA.  Authorities say 39-year-old Catherine Strickland has been charged with embezzlement.

Strickland stands accused of embezzling more than $2,700 from the Parent Teacher Association of Three Rivers Elementary school, according to Gulfport police.

Gulfport police say the theft happened between April and August of this year.

Strickland is also accused of submitting fraudulent documents to the school district's book keeper. Investigators say they were tipped off by a complaint from the Harrison County Schools Superintendent Henry Arledge and the district book keeper.

Strickland was arrested Friday and taken to the Harrison County jail where she has already posted bond.
