JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Civil rights icon, legislator and former WLBT board chairman Dr. Aaron Henry was honored by Tougaloo College Saturday.

The Clarksdale native was the longest serving state NAACP president, a state representative and business owner.

Henry was recognized during Toga's annual Founder's Week celebrations.

The second annual Unveiling and Dedicatory Ceremony was held at the historic Woodworth Chapel.

His engraved paver was placed in the Memorial Plaza among noted Civil Rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Medgar Evers, Stokely Carmichael, Andrew Young and others.

"He and Martin Luther King were good friends. He and Medgar Evers were good friends. It's an honor and I'm real emotional now because this is my grandfather, and I'm glad that he's being remembered," said Henry's grandson Aaron McClinton.

"Dr. Aaron Henry was a stalwart in that struggle here in the State of Mississippi. His memory, his contribution to this community are everlasting," said Dr. Delores Bolden-Stamps, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Tougaloo College.

Dr. Ed Jackson, the executive architect for the Martin Luther King Jr. Monument in Washington D.C., was the event's guest speaker.
