JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Three Jackson Police officers are being recognized for their role in evacuating tenants from an apartment building that was on fire.

Officer Vinson Hughes was sent to a fire at 611 Houston Avenue, which turned out to be the Vintage Apartments.

He called dispatch and requested additional officers to assist in evacuating tenants from their apartments.

The officers didn't get a response when knocking on apartment B-6, but could hear loud music playing. They forced their way into the apartment and found the tenant unconscious on the floor.

The three officers were able to rescue the tenant from the apartment, but all three suffered from smoke inhalation. They were treated and released from UMMC.

The Precinct 2 officers involved are Officer Jessica Armstrong, Officer Steven Frederick and Officer Vinson Hughes.
