GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Falling asleep during jury selection and picking up her kids landed one woman in jail.

Friday, Mary Carter was sentenced to spend two days in jail and was taken away immediately. She was also ordered to pay a $100 fine for contempt of court.

Harrison County Judge Lisa Dodson asked Carter why she didn't remember certain things about the jury selection and she said she fell asleep.

After that incident, Carter Was supposed to return to court after lunch to continue jury selection, she told the judge she had to pick up her three children. But Judge Dodson told her to find someone else to do that.

Carter never returned to court, even the next day when the trial began.

Cater is a single mom of three boys. Two are school aged and one is younger. That youngest child was outside the courtroom Friday with her grandmother when mom was ordered to go with the bailiff to jail.
