CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -

Chandler police shot a domestic violence suspect overnight who reportedly barricaded himself in his apartment and then tried to set it on fire.

Chandler police said they were called to a domestic dispute between a man and his pregnant girlfriend at a home on North Delaware Street, near Chandler Boulevard and Arizona Avenue about 10 p.m.

Police arrived and the suspect fled to his apartment. Police surrounded the apartment and waited for him to come out.

At some point he reportedly poured liquids on the ground and started a fire.

Police said the man charged their officers and they had no choice but to open fire.

The suspect is alive. His condition is unknown at this time.

The suspect's girlfriend, who is five months pregnant, is reportedly OK.
