Tonto, Prescott national forests open again for business

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Tonto National Forest and Prescott National Forest is joining the more than 400 national parks and other national forests resuming normal operations after the government shutdown ended with an agreement in Congress and the president's signature.

Recreation areas and administrative offices at both forests will open at 8 a.m. Friday.

Marinas at Roosevelt, Apache, Canyon, Bartlett and Saguaro lakes were already open for business and more information could be found by contacting the marinas individually, Tonto National Forest officials said.

"We are working quickly to recall staff and coordinate efforts to reopen all forest facilities, boat launches and developed recreational sites which were open previous to the shutdown," stated Neil Bosworth, forest supervisor.

In Washington, National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said all 401 national parks were expected to reopen Thursday.

"The professional men and women of the National Park Service are waiting to greet visitors with open arms and help you have the time of your life in these national treasures," Jarvis said.

Park concession facilities and other park partners are also expected to start to resume operations Thursday, Jarvis said.
