CAMP HILL, AL (WSFA) -

Eight years after a 78-year-old Camp Hill woman was assaulted and murdered, authorities say justice is finally being served by the person they say is responsible.

Willie Louise Kellum was attacked and killed on February 21, 2005, a Monday night. A family member found her body

Camp Hill Police and the Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Department exhausted all their leads in an effort to bring the woman's killer to justice. Even the governor's office tried to spur help with the investigation by offering a $5,000 reward. Years went by with no arrest.

The cold case turned red hot in October 2013, however, as new DNA evidence was uncovered. With the discovery, authorities made a positive connection to Kellum's suspected killer.

The suspect was identified as fellow Camp Hill resident Markis Heard.

Investigators say they are starting the process of indicting Heard for murder. They say he's already incarcerated with the Alabama Department of Corrections.
