Former Dothan police officer killed in house fire

COWARTS, AL (WSFA) -

Houston County authorities confirm a former Dothan police officer was killed in a house fire in Cowarts Monday night.

David Carmichael was killed in the fire at his residence on Eddins Road, according to House County Sheriff's Office officials.

County authorities were notified of the fire at approximately 9:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation by the sheriff's office and Alabama State Fire Marshals Office revealed the fire started in the stove.

Carmichael's body will be sent to the Department of Forensic Science to determine the exact cause of death.
