Attendance at AL National Fair way up for 2013

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Alabama National Fair's catchy jingle, "People from miles around, from the hills and from the towns..." rang very true for the event's 60th anniversary.

The 2013 Alabama National Fair is in the books and management says attendance was up twenty percent over 2012 because of special promotions like Dollar Night and Ladies Night.

The 2013 event featured new rides, new shows and new food along with the annual fair favorites.

Monday, workers were breaking down the rides and exhibitions and they prepare to clear out until next year. Planning for the event is a year-round job, management says.

Later this week, the workers will get a debrief on this year's event and will then get to work putting together plans for 2014.

The Alabama National Fair is put on each year by the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery.

They hooked Mississippi's state flag underneath the American flag, and they raised both flags over the city hall grounds. And just like that, five days of debate over whether the state flag should fly in Ocean Springs temporarily came to an end.
