MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The federal government shutdown resulted in the furlough of most IRS workers, but if you think having those agents sit at home means you're off the hook for paying your taxes, you would be wrong.

Tuesday, October 15 was the deadline to pay your taxes if you requested a 6-month extension back in April. The deadline is still in effect regardless of the shutdown.

If you're looking to get money back in a refund, expect some delays. The IRS says it will not issue any refunds until "normal government operations resume".

The IRS is not offering any help in the form of phone calls or in person services due to the shutdown.
