Cruisers leave the MS Gulf Coast

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

It's been a great week for Cruisin' the Coast with beautiful weather and a record number of classic cars, but all good things must come to an end. People at Centennial Plaza Sunday morning said it was an incredible week on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

"If you love cars and you love just hanging out with good people come to Cruisin' the Coast," said Steve Ward.

"Well this has probably been one of the greatest one I've ever had. My mother always said 13 was a lucky number. Today is the 13th," said Ronald York, the winner of the 1969 Trans Am Dragster.

Nebraska native was in disbelief when his name was drawn in the raffle.

"I couldn't believe it," said York. "For $25, I bought three tickets."

While winning a car makes the event sweeter, he said this is his fifth year at Cruising' the Coast and what keeps him coming back is simple.

"This is one of the greatest places to cruise- in, in the United States," said York. "I don't think you'll find a better place, a trendier place than Gulfport, Mississippi."

Others, like Ed and Betty Vanzandt, agree. They were sitting in front of their 1979 Nova soaking in the last of the event.

"Just fantastic with all the cars and what people have done with these old cars, you know?" Vanzandt. "It's amazing."

Driving around Centennial Plaza Sunday morning, as people prepared to leave, it was obvious, it was a week of fun.

"It's growing and growing every year," said David Alfred. "It's really nice, really, really nice."

For Louisiana residents David Alfred and Bobby Lambert, it was a bittersweet goodbye.

"We appreciate it, we really had a fantastic time," said Alfred.

While everyone said they look forward to next year, they just wonder how this event can get any better.
