Neighbors uneasy after murder at apartment complex

Posted: Updated:
PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Several Neighbors at Monaco Lake Townhomes are very uneasy after someone was killed in their complex. Two women who have lived at the complex for about a year said they've never had to deal with this type of violence.

"Your home is supposed to be safe and if you are not safe in your house than what is a home," a neighbor said.

"Now, I am ready to move. I am not going to lie. We all have kids. It is scary," another neighbor said.

A little before midnight Saturday, Pascagoula police received a call of about a shooting at the complex. When they arrived they said 29-year-old Joseph White was on the ground shot. He later died.

"I didn't hear shots, but I heard all the cops," said a resident.

While police are still developing leads in this case, they did tell say they are pretty sure it was an argument at the apartment complex that led to the shooting.

"Right now, what is being told to police department it was a disturbance between some juveniles and the victim that led to the shooting," Pascagoula Police Investigator Shannon Massey said.

Over at the complex, rest in peace signs cover cars as residents still try to make sense of it all.

"I am speechless. It gives me chills because there are so many kids that live here. It is ridiculous," a resident said.

The case is still ongoing.

If you have information about the shooting, you are asked to contact the Pascagoula Police Department at 228-762-2211 or Crimestoppers at (877) 787-5898.
