No. 20 Texas Tech remains undefeated

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Behind 3 touchdown passes from Davis Webb, the 20th Ranked Red Raiders moved to 6-0 and became bowl eligible with a 42-35 win over Iowa State in front of a homecoming crowd of 57,367 at Jones AT&T Stadium.

The Red Raiders had 666 yards of total offense and despite 3 ties, never trailed in the game.

Davis Webb got the start for injured Baker Mayfield and went 35 for 56 for 415 yards. Webb started off the scoring in the first with a 33-yard TD connection with Jakeem Grant and a 4 yard TD reception from Eric Ward. The game was tied at 21 at the half.

In the 3rd, Davis Webb threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Bradley Marquez to allow Tech to regain a 28-21 advantage. DeAndre Washington added a 12 yard touchdown run in the 4th to push it to 35-21 and SaDale Foster's 38 yard touchdown run made it 42-28.

Jace Amaro led the receiving core with 9 catches for 143 yards. Bradley Marquez had 6 catches for 50 yards, Eric Ward 7 catches for 61 yards and Speedy Jakeem Grant 5 catches for 90 yards.

Iowa State hung around thanks to 3 Red Raider Turnovers, a missed Texas Tech field goal and a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Jarvis West.

The Red Raiders next visit West Virginia next Saturday in another 11 a.m. kickoff.

Texas Tech Athletics released this statement immediately after the game:

With today's 42-35 win over Iowa State at Jones AT&T Stadium, Texas Tech becomes the first Big 12 team to reach bowl eligibility with a 6-0 start to the season. Texas Tech is now bowl eligible for the 20th time in the last 21 seasons. In its history, Texas Tech has played in 35 bowl games which ranks 17th nationally. The Red Raiders defeated Minnesota 34-31 in last year's Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
