BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - One of the biggest events during cruising week has always been the drive in at the Biloxi VA. Construction at the hospital forced organizers to come up with an alternate plan.
Thousands of classic cars filled the parking area around the Hook up Bar and Boardwalk Marina.
Patients from the VA were brought in for an event called Salute the veterans.
"The support has been great. We have many volunteers taking the veterans around. The Hook Up sponsored this and are feeding them this is a happy crew" said Mary Kay Gominger with the VA.
The veterans enjoyed entertainment and the vintage automobiles.
"As you watch them go through they talk about the time they had in cars like these. It's a trip down memory lane" Gominger said.
The folks at the Hook Up and Boardwalk Marina were excited about the chance to host this event and show the veterans a good time.
Ray Stronski said they were happy to provide a venue.
Stronski said, "When the VA told us about how they could not handle it this year, we said we'll put this together for the veterans."
It was a day to salute our veterans and see some of the finest classic cars in town for Cruisin' the Coast.
Construction is expected to be completed at the Biloxi VA in time for the 2014 edition of Cruisin' the Coast.
