Paving contractor problems spread to Scott County

Posted: Updated:
SCOTT COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Scott county resident says he was the target of a paving scam that two Rankin county residents were also victims of. Bill Wooten says a company called P.P.C. paving installed an asphalt driveway at his home, before even quoting him a price.

"They said I needed a new driveway.  I said yeah but I couldn't afford one", says Wooten.  "Another truck pulled up and had the crew on it, and they jumped off and went to work."

Representatives from the company then tried to demand $13, 000.00 from him which he refused to pay.

The Sheriffs department says they are aware of the company operating in the area.

Sheriff Mike Lee says, "Their mode of operation is to do work you don't need and don't have to have and they are completely overcharging.  It's pretty much extortion."

Sheriff Mike Lee says its extortion, and elderly residents are being targeted.

The Better Business Bureau of Mississippi has five unresolved complaints against P.P.C.

WLBT tried to contact P.P.C., short for Pee Wee's Paving and Coating.  Their office in Clinton was deserted, and they have not responded to emails or phone calls.

Two residents in Rankin county say P.P.C. installed driveways at their homes which are falling apart.
