LUCEDALE, MS (WLOX) - Head Coach John Douglass is in his second season at George County. He's trying to rebuild the Rebels into a playoff contender year-in and year-out.
Coach Douglass said,"It's going to take these kids coming back every single week and being focused going back to work and forget about the last one whatever it is a win or loss and let's focus on the next one and get better every time we come out here."
Coach Douglass is doing everything he can in practice to make sure his players learn his system and learn how to win.
He likes what he sees in his skilled players.
Quarterback Blake Fields is a 6-4, 210 pound junior who is a vocal leader.
He's completed 50 percent of his passes and his teammates rely on his leadership.
"He gets everybody together, "stated Rebels wide receiver Blake Fields. "Blake makes sure where we have to be and keeps us in line so he helps us a lot."
Blake Fields rely's on senior wide receiver Jacob Jones to get open. Jones is one of his primary receivers.
Running back Annison Dickey, a 5-10, 203 pound junior provides speed and power, taking some pressure off quarterback Blake Fields.
Defensively, you can't miss 6-3, 280 pound tackle Luke Broadhead. The senior missed 3 games with a hand injury, but he's back plugging up the defensive front line in practice and on Friday night. Broadhead excels not only on the football turf, but in the classroom as well.
He made a 26 on his ACt.
Broadhead said,"Academics means a lot to me. It's what I look forward to everyday. I want to excel in everything but academics comes first."@
While the Rebels have taken their lumps over the past two seasons... coach Douglass is taking his time... rebuilding a football team, one that he wants to compete for championships titles in the near future.
