SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Doors opened at 9 a.m. Monday at the Keesler commissary, thanks to an announcement from Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel over the weekend.
He said hundreds of thousands of furloughed civilian employees may return to work.
The department of defense was allowed to eliminate furloughs for employees who contribute to the morale, well-being, and readiness of service members.
A lot of people use the commissary at Keesler and the Seabee Base to get groceries and other items because there is no tax.
The commissary at the Seabee base reopens Tuesday.
Both commissaries will continue normal business hours. The commissaries closed last week following the government shutdown.
