SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - South Mississippi's oyster reefs are still closed. Monday DMR Officials will check the bacteria levels following Sunday's rain to help determine when they can reopen them.
According to DMR's emergency contingency plan, reefs must be closed whenever the area is under a hurricane or tropical storm watch.
When Karen became a tropical storm, officials had no option, but to close the oyster reefs. But oyster fishermen sidelined for three days now are eager to get back out on the water.
WLOX will have an update on the oyster reefs as soon as they open.
