CLAIBORNE COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One woman was ejected and a man airlifted to a hospital following a crash in Claiborne County.

Authorities say neither was wearing seat belts.

Claiborne County Sheriff Marvin Lucas said the accident happened around two o'clock Sunday afternoon on Barland Road in the Pattison area.

According to investigators, the vehicle hit an embankment in a curve near White Hall Baptist Church and flipped.

The driver has been identified as 57-year-old Ceola Anderson, who was thrown from the vehicle.

Coroner J. W. Mallet pronounced Anderson dead at the scene.

The passenger, 56-year-old Dennis Ellis, was flown to University Medical Center. Ellis' condition is not known at this time.

Both are from the Pattison community.

Sheriff Lucas is particularly saddened by the tragic accident because he attended high school with both victims.

He urges all motorists to always use safety belts.
