ETX teen shot and killed Saturday, suspect in custody

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

Kilgore Public Information Officer Roman Roberson confirms with KLTV that a teenager was shot and killed Saturday night in Kilgore.

Roberson tells us the shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of Mustang Drive in Kilgore, located off of Farm to Market Road 349 northeast of downtown Kilgore.

Upon arrival officers found 17-year-old Kayla Williams dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Witnesses in the area identified the shooter to police as 22-year-old Coby Hudgins of Kilgore. Police say he left the residence after the shooting before police arrived. Hudgins was later involved in a vehicle crash on FM 2087. He was arrested for DWI by DPS officers.

Following an investigation by the Kilgore Police Department's Criminal Investigation Unit, Hudgins was charged with murder and is currently being held in the Gregg County Jail on bonds over $100,000.
