MAGEE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A candlelight vigil was held Saturday night for Jessica Cromwell, who was killed at her place of employment in Magee on Tuesday.

Cromwell's family and friends attended the vigil, wearing pins with her picture on them and purple ribbons.

The vigil was held in support of domestic abuse victims. Those sponsoring the event wanted to  let anyone who finds themselves in the situation know that help and resources are available.

"The goal tonight is to save a life. We want to bring relevance to domestic violence and let them know that there is help. You can get out. An abuser will not stop. They will keep going," said organizer Lashauna Washington.

Family members say the 21 year-old Cromwell was a long-time victim of domestic violence by her boyfriend Robert Williams.

In a press release from the Magee Police Department sent on Wednesday, some details of Cromwell's death were revealed.

The press release read: On October 1, 2013, at approximately 5:19 p.m., Magee Police Department received a 911 call from Wendy's stating that they had a domestic situation in progress between an employee and her boyfriend.

As Magee PD units were responding to the call, the 911 caller stated that he is stabbing her.  The employees followed the suspect out of the business and gave the PD a physical and clothing description of the suspect.

The victim was Jessica Cromwell, 21, from Magee.  The suspect was Robert James Williams Jr, her 31-year-old boyfriend.

Robert Williams was transported to the Magee Police Department. His bloody clothing was collected for evidence and he was placed in a holding cell with only his boxer shorts and ankle socks.

Shortly thereafter, Robert Williams was found hanging in his cell by his boxer shorts and ankle socks, which were tied together.

The Wendy's restaurant has remained closed since the violent crime occurred. Management from the restaurant say they plan to reopen on Tuesday, October 8.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
