RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Units with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and sheriff's department  responded to the scene of an accident in Rankin County Saturday evening.

The  911 call came in at 5 p.m.

Trooper Henry said the accident happened on Highway 49 in Star in the southbound lane, north of Piney Woods School.

Investigators say the two vehicle crash involved an 18-wheeler and a car.

Preliminary investigations indicate the 18-wheeler either forced the vehicle off the road or clipped it, causing it to overturn and stop on its side in the median.

Officials on the scene said the driver of the 18-wheeler left the scene, stating he was unaware he had clipped the red Toyota Camry. The driver did stop later at a nearby location.

Officials say there are injuries reported.
