Prosecutors want to postpone former JPD officer's sentencing

Posted: Updated:

Federal prosecutors want a judge to postpone the Oct. 11 sentencing hearing of a former Jackson Police Department narcotics officer.

Robert Nikita Shegog pleaded guilty July 3 to his role in a scheme to help a man get a reduced sentence in a drug case in exchange for $45,000.

Authorities say the officers planned to tell the district attorney's office that a man facing drug charges was an informant in other cases.

A motion to continue the sentencing hearing filed by prosecutors says "there are issues that need to be solved which could impact the sentence of the defendant."

The document doesn't describe those issues.

The government requested the hearing be put off until after Dec. 15.
