State Fair ride remains closed after boy falls

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A child fell more than 30 feet from a ride at the Mississippi State Fair Friday night. The accident happened about 10:30.

Emergency responders say the seven year-old boy fell 30 to 40 feet from the iconic sky lift. The ride takes passengers high above the fairgrounds from one end of the midway and food court to the other.

As of Saturday afternoon the "Sky Ride" remained closed.

We're told the child was taken to University Medical Center for treatment. No word on his condition.

Witnesses say the child was on the ride by himself. They also say the he was conscious as paramedics loaded him into an ambulance.

The State Fair Commission has not released any details about the incident.

Stay tuned to the WLBT 6 p.m. report for an interview we were able to get with witnesses who saw the young boy fall.
