Mobile Street Festival ready for kick-off

Posted: Updated:

The 8th Annual Historic Mobile Street Renaissance Festival kicks off Friday.

“We're very excited,” said organizer, Petra Wingo. “We're still having the barbeque cook-off; we're still having the gospel stage, the blues stage, the youth stage.”

The festival kicks off Friday night with Blues in the Street and runs through the weekend, ending on Sunday.

“Saturday is the big day,” said Wingo. “We have our vendors lined up along Mobile Street; we have arts and crafts, of course food, different activities for the children.”

This year, the festival will also include an inauguration for the Mayor of Hattiesburg, Johnny DuPree.

"We feel very honored that Mayor DuPree has selected our venue to have this inauguration, so we're looking forward to that as well."

By coming out to the various events and supporting the festival, Mobile Street continues to be restored.

"Mobile Street has suffered a lot of loss specifically with the tornado in February,” said Wingo. “We've lost some historic buildings so now this year is even more important for the residence to come out."
