LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

The City of Laurel is once again celebrating its heritage as a sawmill town Saturday with the annual Loblolly Festival.

The festival is being held downtown from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be live entertainment throughout the day. Also vendors from around Mississippi and surrounding states will be on hand selling different types of arts and crafts and a wide variety of food. Mister Loblolly will mingle with the crowd and offer photo opportunities.

Organizers are keeping an eye out for possible severe weather and are hoping it won't put a damper on the festival.

"Unfortunately we are a rain or shine event," said Judy Holifield, Loblolly Festival Organizer. "By noon Friday we'll know whether we can proceed."

Updates on the status of the festival can be found at laurelmainstreet.com. There's also a link to their facebook page where further updates can be found.

Holifield says right now they plan on going ahead with the festival. If canceled it will not be rescheduled for this year.

The entertainment lineup looks like this.

  • Sugarcane Jane from noon to 1
  • The Minor Adjustments from 1:30 to 2:45
  • Grayson Capps and the Lost Minstrels from 3:15 to 4:30
  • Honey Island Swamp Band from 5:00 to 7:00
  • John Milham and Friends from 7:30 to 8:45

The festival is named for the Loblolly Pine, the fastest growing pine tree in the south.
