Watkins out as Farish Street developer

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson developer David Watkins will no longer lead the push to revitalize Farish Street.

We've learned that the Jackson Redevelopment Authority terminated its agreement with Watkins and his business group. Neither Watkins nor the JRA could be reached for comment.

Watkins successfully refurbished the abandoned King Edward Hotel a few years ago.

In September 2011, Watkins told us that 15 new venues would be open on Farish Street in a year's time. It was supposed to generate up to $2.5 million a year in sales tax revenues for the city.

Those plans have not become reality as of yet.
