Simpson County molester sentenced

Posted: Updated:
SIMPSON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Simpson county man is going to jail for raping his girlfriend's teenage daughter. We've also learned Gary Bates, according to prosecutors, had been convicted of rape before. It involved a 14-year-old church member in Walthall County back in 2001.

Bates showed no emotion, no regrets, and offered no apology to the young victim he raped twice while in court Friday. The father of the teenager says he is pleased Bates will finally serve time. His daughter was molested at 13 and again at 14 years of age. First in 2011 and again in 2012 according to prosecutors.

Simpson County District Attorney Daniel Jones said DNA evidence was the key in sending Bates to prison. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, 15 years suspended.

Jones believes there are other victims.

"I'm sure," said Jones. adding that he will prosecute the case if they come forward.

We're told the young victim's mother allowed the sexual molestation to occur right under her own roof.

Tanya McAllister was convicted of child neglect but her sentence was suspended. We are told the teenager is grateful justice was served and her attacker is behind bars.
