Thousands turn out for Battle of the Bands

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Thousands rolled into the Capital City Sunday to watch the 12th annual Battle of the Bands.

Eighteen high school and college bands marched across the field at a packed Veteran's Memorial Stadium.

Dance teams also took center stage. Some the performers traveled from across the state to compete.

Organizers say some of the high school students will be recruited by colleges for scholarships because of the event. They want to show the young musicians hard work in school and lead to future success.

"We try and bring these young people together with something positive, as it relates to school spirit, school pride, and to let them know to be positive; don't worry about what's happening out there in the street," said Battle of the Bands Producer, John Ray.

Several national gospel, along with

R&B artists performed for the crowd as a part of the Battle of the Bands.
