Zoo Party comes at critical time for the Jackson Zoo

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The party animals were unleashed Thursday evening for the annual Zoo Party at Highland Village. The fundraiser is the largest of the year for the Jackson Zoo.

More than 15 restaurants donated food and drinks.

The zoo, which is appealing the loss of its accreditation, says the charity event comes at a critical moment.

"You have to operate day to day and Zoo Party is really important because it's not only the fact we're raising money, which obviously is the main thing for any kind of fundraiser, but just the show of support. Having people come out. Having people talk about the zoo," said Jackson Zoo Executive Director Beth Poff.

The Jackson Zoo hoped to raise $50,000 at the Zoo Party.
