FLOWOOD, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant says Christianity shapes his world view and he's not apologetic about opposing abortion or putting Nativity scenes on public property.

The Republican spoke Thursday at Hartfield Academy, a Christian school in Flowood.

Bryant says he asks God what he, as governor, should do about abortion. Bryant says he believes it's best "to interject myself and to try and stop that horrible procedure whenever I can."

Bryant, who is Methodist, says he put a Nativity scene outside the Governor's Mansion last year because "we all have the right to express that belief that Christmas began when a child was born unto a virgin."

About 300 students from Hartfield Academy and Christ Covenant School listened to the governor's speech in the Hartfield gymnasium.
