JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hundreds of students are getting pumped up to stay in school. They are filling up the Eagle Ridge Conference Center for the "Go Hard-Graduation Matters Teen Summit."

This year motivational speaker Shaun Derik will speak to the students about the importance of staying in school. During the summit students will also make a written agreement to graduate and attend college.

"They'll sign a pledge to stay in school," said Hinds County Schools Superintendent Dr. Stephen Handley. "The United Way is helping us with those pledges which will then be hung in the building so that they will see that every single day when they go in that building and know that they are prepared to wear that cap and gown  and finish school."

The annual program is a collaboration between the Hinds County School District and several other organizations and businesses.
