Mesa toddler who called 911 to be recognized for heroics

MESA, AZ (CBS5) -
Katie Fritzsche and her son, Guy Fritzsche, were hanging out at home earlier this month when Katie Fritzsche had a seizure. But Guy knew exactly what to do - and he's only 3 years old.

"He's never seen me had a seizure before, and I'm so impressed that he wasn't scared," Katie Fritzsche said. Luckily, she taught her son, who has a speech delay, what to do in case of an emergency.

Paramedics responded and now, Katie Fritzsche is doing just fine - and beaming with pride.

"I was absolutely blown away, I was just like, 'That's my baby,'" Kate Fritzsche said.

"He had the confidence to stay on the line and articulate that help was needed," said Forrest Smith with Mesa Fire and Medical. He said when it comes to teaching young kids how to dial 911, practice makes perfect.

"Show them the telephone, and that here is the number you are to call, and someone on the other end will talk to you," Smith said.

"He's my hero," Katie Fritzsche said.

Guy is going to be recognized Thursday at a Good Samaritan event with Mesa Fire and Medical and city leaders.
