GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - All lanes of Highway 49 are back open after a cargo truck wreck early Wednesday morning.
The tractor trailer was carrying cases of Strawberry Crush when it crashed on Highway 49. That wreck has made a mess of the morning commute, especially for students and staff at Harrison Central High School.
A Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman says the truck went off the roadway and then partially overturned. Troopers closed all northbound lanes at 2:30 to clear away the debris. But, as of 7:00 Wednesday morning, the left lane is open to traffic.
Detour signs are up near O'Neal Road and on Highway 53.
Officials tell WLOX News the 18-wheeler was hauling approximately 40,000 pounds of soda. The driver, who was not injured, was sighted for failure to keep proper lane.
