A Wednesday-morning fire destroyed several Purvis apartments.
Emergency management officials said four of the Lamar Court Apartments on Highway 589 were gutted by a blaze which began about 9:30 a.m.
Firefighters from seven different local departments battled the fire for more than two hours.
There were no injuries.
"They've got four units under one roof, basically, so there's a lot of stuff in common to these apartments," said James Smith, executive director of Lamar County Emergency Management. "(It's) typical destruction, wood-frame construction with a common attic probably, so once it gets to the attic, it spreads quickly," he said.
The cause is being investigated and officials said it may have begun in a bedroom of one of the apartments.
