Lockdown lifted at 3 Pascagoula schools following nearby shooting

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Three schools in Pascagoula were put on lockdown for 30 minutes following a shooting near the schools Wednesday morning. The schools put on lockdown were Colmer Middle School, Jackson Elementary and Cherokee Elementary schools.

The lockdown has been lifted and classes have resumed. Pascagoula police said there was a shooting off of Eden Street. That shooting prompted the lockdown as a safety precaution.

Officials want parents to know that students are safe. Police tell WLOX news the gunman 'was-not' firing toward a school, but they' don't know what or who was the target. Pascagoula police say no one was hurt.
