Thieves target Jackson tutoring center

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A center that helps tutor students in math, reading and language arts was hit by thieves. The Genesis and Light Center on North State Street caters to children in the community.

Monday night $15,000 to $20,000 worth of electronic equipment and a 16-seat Dodge van were stolen.

Director Albert Wilson says thieves broke in a back door of the facility.

"I felt violated. We offer such a great program, we have saved so many young people," Wilson said.

Wilson says the center has surveillance equipment with cameras and an alarm system, but he believes the thieves disabled them and stole the hard drive containing video evidence. Police are investigating.
