1 injured in overnight fire

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One person has been hospitalized from injuries in an overnight duplex fire. The fire occurred just after midnight at 5730 County Cork road in Jackson.

Chief Fire Investigator Gregory Travis says heavy smoke was coming from the duplex when firemen arrived.Two people were at home.

One got out with no injuries. the other person received 2nd & 3rd degree burns and was taken to Central Mississippi Medical Center. His injuries are not life-threatening.

The fire started in the kitchen. Travis says it appears something was left on the stove.

The duplex is a total loss.
